SUPER SHONGWE MEMORIAL & CHARITY TRUST

The “Super Shongwe Memorial and Charity Trust” is ten years old, launched on the 25 May 2008 when its first Golf Day was held. It is registered as a Trust and Public Benefit Organisation.

The annual golf day is presented by the Super Shongwe Memorial and Charity in association with the Callies Social Golf Club. The event has been named “Super Shongwe Memorial and Charity Golf Day” to honour the memory of one of the great sons of Atteridgeville, the late Bra Super Johannes Fanyana Shongwe, who was not only a keen golfer and member of Black Rock Golf Club and Pretoria Callies Football Club, but was also in many ways, charitable to the needy in Saulsville and Atteridgeville during his lifetime.

All the Trustees work voluntarily to ensure that 100% of funds raised are utilised to bring relief and upliftment to the beneficiary NGOs directly.

Since 2011, the Super Shongwe Memorial and Charity Trust confers Lifetime Achievement Awards to honour unsung sporting heroes and heroines who made sterling contributions to major sports in their own unique and significant involvement or participation in Atteridgeville over an appreciable period of their lives.

IN MEMORY OF FANYANA FENNYMORE SHONGWE aka “BRA SUPER”

This is the man, born on 26 January 1926, the late Fanyana Fennymore Shongwe whom is the inspiration behind the Super Shongwe Memorial & Charity Trust. The athlete, the boxer, the footballer, the golfer, the husband, the father and the grandfather.

As a family, we are still very proud of Fanyana as late husband, father and grandfather, Bra Super, even though he has been gone for 41 years now. We are happy that dedicated community of golfers,  philanthropic donors and funders selflessly and respectively continued to keep his memory alive as active participants in and gracious contributors to the Super Shongwe Memorial and Charity Golf Day whose 10th Anniversary we are now joyously celebrating!

OUR SPONSORS

We appreciate and acknowledge our charitable funders who sponsored us either continuously over some time or on ad hoc basis and even once off.

Our funders & sponsors contributions amount to the total funding of almost R4.0 million for our community projects.

We hope and trust that donors who have given so much in the past will continue to keep their hearts and purses open for this noble cause. We also hope to get new donors to join us in our philanthropic quest to work towards our 20th Anniversary.

Do join in celebrating our 11th Golf Day celebrations in 2019! Without your participation the Trust cannot adequately reach out to the needy and vulnerable members of our communities.
