OUR HEROES

OUR UNSUNG SPORTS HEROES AND HEROINES

Recipients of Lifetime Achievement Awards in Sports in Atteridgeville

The Super Shongwe Memorial and Charity Trust proudly reveals the plentiful hidden sports and community development gems in Atteridgeville. These are stories crying out to be told since 1939 when Atteridgeville, Pheli the beloved Kasi, was established. Atteridgeville was named after Councillor Pat Atteridge, of the then City Council of Pretoria. Its first residents moved in on the 26 May 1940 from Bantule and Marabastad.

The relocations followed forceful removals of Blacks from these and other townships, including Lady Selborne, by the apartheid regime because they were too close to the city and the surrounding white residences. There will be many stories mainly about unsung sports and community development heroes and heroines. Bias in sports will be more towards much more contribution other than playing soccer only. There will also be untold stories about charitable community work happening in this suburb which already abounds with remarkable men, women and youth who have held the Atteridgeville flag high up to be seen everywhere in the country.
